Monthly Club Meeting -- Live Demonstration of Indigo Dyeing by Nina Chen

Nina discussed the process of growing and dyeing with indigo plants, highlighting the unique patterns and colors each piece creates. She explained the steps to make indigo dye, including collecting leaves, soaking them in water, and using an automatic circulation system for oxidation. Nina emphasized the importance of maintaining the dye vat, which can last for years, and keeping it warm indoors. Nina also demonstrated traditional dyeing techniques, detailing how each method creates intricate designs. She discussed controlling the dye's shade and achieving consistent colors, noting that indigo dye is stable and resistant to fading. And Nina produced two beautiful designs right before our eyes!!
