Art Competitions with Monthly Themes
Sunnyvale Art Club's monthly meetings feature a themed art competition with Gold and Platinum categories. Attending members anonymously vote for their favorite artwork, and the votes are tallied to determine 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each category. First place winners discuss their artwork inspiration, technique, and other relevant information, and their pieces are displayed at the Bean Scene Cafe (Gold) and Sunnyvale Library (Platinum). All winning artworks are also featured on the group Facebook page and in our monthly newsletter.
Points are awarded for winning: 3 points for 1st place, 2 points for 2nd, and 1 point for 3rd. At the year's end, accumulated points are tallied to announce overall winners who receive a prize.
1. Bring your artwork (doesn’t need to be framed) to the monthly club meeting to compete in the art competition.
2. Place your artwork in the Gold or Platinum category, and note the letter or number assigned to your artwork. Write your name, title, and medium of your work on the line for your letter or number.
3. That’s it! Don’t forget to pick up your artwork after the meeting.
If you win 1st place, the coordinator will contact you and give you the contact info of the previous month's winner so that you can coordinate an exchange to hang your winning piece in either the Bean Scene or Sunnyvale Library.
Winning artwork is placed at the beginning of the next month. For example, if you win in the February club meeting, you would coordinate with January’s winner to hang your art as they remove their art from the spot at the end of February.
GOLD Category
When you are new to the club, you're invited to participate in the Gold category, regardless of your level of skill. Artwork should match the monthly theme. 1st place Gold winners exhibit their artwork at the Bean Scene Cafe on Murphy St. in Sunnyvale, in a place by the window designated with a sign for our club.
PLATINUM Category
Those who have won 1st place in the Gold category three times, move to the Platinum category to compete. You will continue to compete in the Platinum category until changes to the competition are made in the future. 1st place Platinum winners will exhibit their work at the Sunnyvale Library (next to the fireplace).
