Artist: Angelo Lopez,
Cartoon Artist and Children’s Book Writer
Angelo Lopez demonstrated his techniques and artwork he is creating to build a children’s book he’s been working on. His book should be in publication sometime this spring. Angelo’s lighthearted characters and use of color and pen bring out the emotion and joy in his work
His pen and ink work is done with traditional pen holders, nibs, and India Ink. He demonstrated the open-edge technique in which outlines are broken to show movement and fluidity in the characters he illustrates. Angelo also shared his techniques in coloring w/diluted acrylics and brush work.
Angelo showed the group drafts of his book and the different revisions in art and writing required to perfect the finished product. He also discussed the pros and cons of self-publishing vs. working with a publishing house. Angelo is a member of the No. CA chapter of the Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators which meets to discuss writing and illustration of the books they are working on to give advice, and encouragement.
